“Definitely Do” Top Three DIY Picks: All Things Birthday

Planning a birthday party for a kiddo in your life? This week’s top picks are DIY ideas that are yummy for the belly, as creative as Martha and always easy on your checkbook!

1. “Marshmallow Fun Pops”

I’m sure you have tried a cake pop at least once in your life, my family became familiar with these treats when Starbucks started making and selling them. However, there are some of us who may not have the time to make them so when I found these “Marshmallow Fun Pops” on Pinterest via CouponClippingCook it was love at first site… or bite. Marshmallows are a hit with almost everyone and the best part...the ideas for toppings are endless. Decorate, coordinate and prepare just as you please. What a great way to get the party started!

My tip: A fondue style table with all the marshmallows, chocolates, and toppings so that each kiddo can make their own, making a great addition to any party.  Have a few already made to decorate the tables as center pieces.

 2. Kids Photography

Okay so this idea is not one that I found on Pinterest or another DIY Blog BUT it is my fun DIY birthday party "must do." Photos are what make the party memories come to life and sometimes hiring a photographer can be costly. Sooo… why not purchase disposable cameras  (enough for every child attending to have one) and have the kids be the photographers for the party. What better way to see the party then through the kid’s eyes and you can find them at Dollar Tree! Once the party is over collect the cameras, get the photos developed, and then hand out a photo or two to each child that attended the party or mail them (if you mailed out invites you already have their address). You may end up with random photos of the dog, grass, and maybe one of those thumb in the way photos but it will still be a one of a kind way to remember that special day.

My tip: When you have them developed get a CD made so you can edit them and personalize them for each of the children that were at the party. I recommend using Photobucket, my fav!

3. Craft Box Invitations

Alright so I saw this adorable and I mean ADORABLE craft box invitation from Hostess Blog for an “Under the Sea” themed party. You see couples doing box invitations for their wedding so why not for a children’s birthday party?!?! You probably see ¾ if not ALL of the kids you would invite so you wouldn't have to mail them out unless you wanted to. You can do this for ANY theme and you can find craft boxes anywhere from $1.50 and up depending on the size of the box. You can decorate them and then fill the boxes with your invitation (which doesn't have to be ordered, Target, just to name one place, has cute and affordable invites) and put in a few trinkets that match the theme. It’s like getting the party favor before the party!

My tip: Throw in a fortune cookie, regardless of the party theme. They all have a fun and sometimes cheesy message but kids LOVE fortune cookies!

Now get out there and make something beautiful and from the heart! <3
